2021 Maverick Open & 2021 Mike Clock Results

Women’s college wrestlers were back on the mat for the second weekend in a row, as Colorado Mesa hosted the Maverick Open in Grand Junction, Colorado, while the Mike Clock Open was held in Forest Grove, Oregon. In the end, Colorado Mesa showed their depth at the Maverick, while Simon Fraser hit the mats for the first time in two seasons and had a strong performance at the Mike Clock.

At Maverick Open, Colorado Mesa scored five champs, as they won every weight from 130-191. Star recruit freshman Claire DiCugno won it at 130, while Kaylee Lacy (143), Zoe Gress (155), Tatum Heikkila (170), and Melena Jones (191) all won their weights. Texas program Wayland Baptist landed three champs as Asia Ray (109), Rebekah Cordova (123), and Jordan Suarez (136) all won titles. Meanwhile, University of Providence had a strong showing, with sisters Ira & Iverly Navarro both making the finals at 101, though they did not wrestle the match, and Ashley Gooman winning it at 116.

At the Mike Clock Open, Simon Fraser flexed their muscle, and showed they’re back after the 2020-2021 layoff with five champs. Maddie Mackenzie (101), Alexia Seal (109), 2020 NCAA national champion Karla Godinez-Gonzalez (123), 2x All-American Alyvia Fiske (155), 2x All-American Emily Cue (170), and Katja Osteen (191) all hit the top of the podium. Fiske defeated NAIA national champion Sienna Ramirez of Southern Oregon University in the finals 6-0.

At 116, Southern Oregon’s Carolina Johnson took first, while Empire Wrestling Club’s Alice Rickett won the 130 class. Victoria Baez-Dillone of Umpqua Community College won it at 136, and Corban’s Ivy Kraght won the 143-pound title.
