The Way-Too-Late End of Season Multi-Divisional College Rankings (2019-2020 Season)
September 2, 2020

What is a “multi-divisional ranking?”
It’s the mother of all college rankings, that’s what it is! With the advent of the multi-divisional scene in women’s college wrestling—the NAIA, NCWA & NCAA programs now have separate national championships and the WCWA has only partial participation—we might lose sight of how all these women stack up against each other. The multi-divisional rankings takes all of women’s college wrestling and combines it into one Top 25 ranking. It’s a big deal to make a list like this as the depth in women’s college wrestling has grown immensely in recent years!

Why publish this ranking now?
We never got to “button up” the 2019-2020 season after several of the final events. The pandemic caused our publishing schedule to go sideways, and we never got to put this together. Having this final ranking is useful for several reasons. First, it gives us a final accurate picture of the 2019-2020 season. Second, it gives us a base for preparing rankings moving forward into the 2020-2021 season. Finally, these women deserved to be recognized! There’s so much talent on the scene now, these women deserve to have their stories told, and rankings is one way to do that.

Worthy of note:
1. There’s three new #1’s since our last ranking! At 101, freshman phenom Pauline Granados of McKendree took over the top spot with a dominant performance at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) in March to win her first national title. At 123, Simon Fraser senior Alex Hedrick avenged her loss at the NWCA National Duals to King’s Cheyenne Sisenstein with a fall in the finals to win the national title and reclaim the #1 spot, a storybook ending to her illustrious college career. At 155, McKendree’s Alex Glaude, a familiar name at the top of our rankings, regained her #1 spot with a national title at the NCWWC, winning her finals match 3-1 over Jayden Laurent, last year’s WCWA national champion. Laurent pulled the 2-2 upset win over SFU’s Alyvia Fiske who previously held the #1 spot. Glaude is also a senior, ending her college career a 2x national champion.

2. Time to pay attention to NCWA (National Collegiate Wrestling Association) Clubs. A number of young women hit our Top 25, including Springfield Tech’s Katlin Wells, who beat 2020 WCWA champ Esthela Trevino of Umpqua in the NCWA finals. Wells also beat WCWA All-American Cecelia Saavedra of Grays Harbor in the same tournament. She has since transferred to Schreiner University. At 170, Umpqua’s Jade Piper cracked the Top 15 in the #13 spot. She is now a 2x NCWA National Champion.

This ranking is produced by a team made up of AWW staff & other knowledgeable members of the women’s wrestling community.
