McKendree’s Alexia “Flex” Ward resets between periods at the Missouri Valley Open last month. She’s #3 at 123 in our NCAA rankings.

A few thoughts on the rankings:

1. We have new #1’s in 6/10 weights! Hitting #1 for the first time are Alexia Seal of Simon Fraser at 101, Emily Shilson of Augsburg at 109, Allison Petix of King at 130, Emma Bruntil of McKendree at 136, Ashlynn Ortega of King at 143, and Emily Cue of Simon Fraser at 191. Holding their #1 spots are Felicity Taylor of McKendree at 116, Alex Hedrick of Simon Fraser at 123, Alexandria Glaudé of McKendree at 155, and Kori Bullock of McKendree at 170.

2. There’s some first-year programs making some waves! Augsburg & North Central had some of their freshmen hit the list, and hit it big. Augsburg’s top-ranked women are Emily Shilson, who takes the #1 at 109 after taking out #1 Angelina Gomez at the Bill Farrell, freshman Vayle Baker is at #5 at 123 while teammate Gabby Skidmore is also #5 at 130 after both had a solid Missouri Valley Open. North Central has freshmen Amanda Martinez at #4 at 130 and rising star Yelena Mokoyed is already up to #2 at 170, after she beat 2017 WCWA champ Jessika Rottier 7-5 in the opening round at the Missouri Valley Open and placed 3rd.

3. There’s lots of freshmen in there! We don’t rank freshmen until they get results, but boy oh boy did they have some results. Our first NCAA ranking was a preseason so it only included upperclassmen, but after the first month of competition, you’ll see a lot of new names in there from the high school scene. Besides those mentioned in number 1, you’ll see McKendree freshman Emma Bruntil #1 at 136 after taking out our previous #1 King’s Nicole Joseph twice by tech fall (SFU Open & MoVal). You’ll also see Jaslynn Gallegos of Presbyterian in the #2 spot at 116, McKendree’s Pauline Granados #3 at 109, Colorado Mesa’s Jennesis Martinez #4 at 109, McKendree’s Alara Boyd #3 at 143, and Augsburg’s Faith Tuttle #4 at 170.

4. McKendree is Hammertown. Four of the ten #1’s are Bearcats and the Illinois squad has 14 total in the top 5. Simon Fraser ain’t so bad either, with three #1’s, while King has two.

5. At the end of each name, you’ll see their previous ranking.

6. In case you need a refresher, here’s all the NCAA Schools!
