After going back-to-back at the 2020 WCWA Nationals and winning Senior Nationals in December, Campbellsville’s 130-pound senior Abby Nette wins this year’s Patricia Miranda Medal, an award given to “one outstanding WCWA athlete at the conclusion of the season.”

“I feel like this was a goal coming into this year and I’m glad I achieved this goal,” Nette told The Open Mat when asked about winning the Miranda Medal. “I thought about it at the beginning of the year and I thought about it last year, and I wanted to make it happen this year, for sure.”

Nette transferred from Emmanuel to Campbellsville last summer, where she won WCWA Nationals in 2019 and earned the M.O.W. at the event.

The award is named after Patricia Miranda, the first American woman in Olympic history to receive a medal in woman's wrestling. She won the bronze at the 2004 Summer Olympics at 48 kg. The award was inaugurated by The Open Mat in 2018.

Past Miranda Medal Winners:
2019 Dominique Parrish (Simon Fraser)
2018 Kayla Miracle (Campbellsville)
