The Three Best American Female Professional Wrestlers on the Planet Today

The world of professional wrestling is somewhat different from that of amateur wrestling. The wacky world which has been pushed to the forefront of the American entertainment scene by promoter Vince McMahon is scripted and isn’t a true sport, unlike the amateur game. However, that isn’t to say that there isn’t a number of American women who have talent in abundance.

WWE made headlines recently courtesy of its marquee event, WrestleMania. The 39th installment of the live entertainment spectacular was hosted at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, and the event was front page news. The show was headlined by megastar Roman Reigns.

The Tribal Chief has run roughshod over the company for the last three years however, online bookmakers such as Bovada, which provides betting on UFC, WWE, and other combat sports, made him a +175 underdog in the main event. There, he faced off against 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match winner Cody Rhodes, and many expected the American Nightmare to walk away with Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. In the end, however, it wasn’t to be, and Roman’s reign of terror now stands at 950+ days and counting.

But it wasn’t just the male wrestlers on display that were making headlines. Former UFC star Ronda Rousey was victorious in her home state, as was another top female star in Australian Rhea Ripley. She defeated one of America’s finest, Charlotte Flair, to secure the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Without further ado, here are the three best American female professional wrestlers on the planet today.

BIANCA BELAIR

The EST of WWE, Bianca Belair is currently the number one female attraction in the world's top professional wrestling organization. She is the current WWE Raw Women’s Champion, a championship she has held since last March when she defeated Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 38. She successfully retained her championship at the recent event at SoFi Stadium, picking up an impressive victory over Japanese star Asuka, and her title reign shows no signs of ending.

Belair is renowned for her awe-inspiring strength. She regularly throws her opponents around the ring, including performing one of the most impressive suplexes in the business today. She is also known for her incredibly long hair braid, which touches the floor when she walks, and she occasionally uses it to whip her opponent mid-match.

Should she manage to retain her championship at the upcoming Backlash event, which takes place in Puerto Rico, she will become the longest-reigning women’s champion in the modern era. She is also the longest reigning black singles champion in WWE history, an honor of which she publicly stated she was proud to be the new owner.

Heading forward, it is unknown in which direction Belair will go. She has defeated everyone put in front of her, with the notable exception of one woman…

CHARLOTTE FLAIR

That woman is Charlotte Flair, arguably one of the most decorated female professional wrestlers of all time. The daughter of legendary 16-time World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair has held the women’s championship on 14 occasions, more than any other superstar in history. She recently dropped her SmackDown Women’s Championship to Ripley at WrestleMania, however, don’t be surprised to see her embark on a feud with Bianca Belair in the near future.

MERCEDES MONE

Formerly known in the WWE as Sasha Banks, Mercedes Mone recently made the move to Tokyo-based promotion New Japan Pro Wrestling, and she has taken the Land of the Rising Sun by storm. In her first match with her new promotion, she defeated KAIRI to claim the women’s championship, and it looks as though she may well embark on a long reign just like Belair. It seems that the powers that be in Japan are looking to position her as the company’s top star, and why wouldn’t they?

Mone is a bona fide star and has a starring role in the hit TV show The Mandalorian. She has also solidified herself as one of the finest wrestlers on the planet, male or female. She is a real-life cousin of music sensation Snoop Dogg, and she has plenty of charisma to boot.

The 31-year-old rose to prominence in the mid-2010s within WWE NXT, the developmental territory for WWE’s main roster. There, should put on a number of match-of-the-year contenders, and her NXT Women’s Championship matchup against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, in 2015 was particularly impressive. Unfortunately, however, her time wrestling in the WWE appears to be over.

She left the company in acrimonious circumstances back in 2022 alongside tag team partner Naomi. The pair felt underutilized and underappreciated within the company and as such, left for pastures new. It’s highly unlikely that we will see her in the company again anytime soon, however, don’t be surprised to see her show up in rival promotion AEW at some point soon.
